테이블 위에는 노트북 하나와 태블릿 하나, 반쯤 마신 아이스 아메리카노, 휘핑크림이 크게 올라간 초코라떼가 어지럽게 놓여 있었다.A laptop and tablet sat messily across the table beside a half-finished iced Americano and a chocolate latte piled high with whipped cream.
주인공은 테이블 맞은편에 앉아 있었다. 그 앞에는 지우가 있었다. 지우는 말이 많았다.The protagonist sat across the table from Jiwoo. Jiwoo was talking. A lot.
태블릿을 확대하고, 노트북 화면을 넘기고, 펜으로 선을 긋고, 다시 컵을 끌어당겼다가, 또 설명을 이어갔다.She zoomed the tablet, flipped through windows on the laptop, traced lines with her pen, pulled her drink closer, then launched straight back into the explanation.
지우는 태블릿 화면을 두 손가락으로 확대했다. 화면에는 태풍 17호의 예상 경로가 떠 있었다.Jiwoo pinched out on the tablet screen. The forecast track for Typhoon No. 17 filled the display.
남동쪽 해상에서 북상하는 붉은 선, 그 주변을 감싼 여러개의 얇은 예측선들.A red line climbed north from the southeastern sea, surrounded by several thinner forecast tracks.

그녀는 태블릿 펜으로 선 하나를 따라 그었다. 선은 일본의 오사카와 혼슈 사이 상공에서 멈춰섰다.She traced one of the lines with the tablet pen. It stopped over Japan, around Osaka and central Honshu.

그녀는 일본 상공에서 멈춰있던 선을 마저 그었다.She continues the line from where it had stopped over Japan.
이어진 선은 북서태평양 상공을 시작으로 일본에서 부산을 지나 서울까지 이어진다.The extended track runs from the northwestern Pacific, across Japan, past Busan, and all the way to Seoul.
지우는 신나있었다. 눈이 너무나도 반짝인다.Jiwoo was visibly excited. Her eyes practically sparkled.

그녀는 위성 레이더를 열어 보여준다. 거대한 소용돌이, 태평양에 있는 대부분의 대류가 S자의 기이한 형태로 흐르다가 태풍의 중심으로 빨려들어가는 모습이다. 지우는 펜으로 중심부를 빙글빙글 긋는다.She pulls up the satellite view. A vast spiral dominates the screen: much of the convection over the Pacific bends into a strange S-shape before being drawn toward the storm's center. Jiwoo circles the core with her pen.

지우는 말하다 말고 초코라떼를 집어 들었다.Jiwoo stops mid-sentence and picks up her chocolate latte.

컵에는 휘핑크림이 산처럼 올라가 있었다.The cup is topped with a mountain of whipped cream.

빨대로 초코라떼를 한 모금 마신다. 지우는 입가에 묻은 휘핑크림도 닦지 않은 채, 태블릿 화면 속 태풍을 다시 바라봤다. 그리고 갑자기 양손으로 컵을 쥔 채 몸을 부르르 떨었다.She takes a sip through the straw. Without wiping the whipped cream from the corner of her mouth, Jiwoo stares back at the typhoon on the tablet. Then she suddenly grips the cup with both hands and shivers with excitement.

지우가 이상한 고음으로 소리를 지른다.Jiwoo lets out a weirdly high-pitched squeal.

카페 안 몇몇 사람이 흠칫하며 돌아본다.Several people in the café flinch and turn around.

지우는 그제야 입가에 묻은 휘핑크림을 손등으로 대충 닦으며 작게 고개를 숙인다.Only then does Jiwoo notice the whipped cream on her mouth. She wipes it away roughly with the back of her hand and gives a small apologetic bow.

다시 주인공 쪽으로 몸을 숙인다.She leans back toward the protagonist.

지우는 태블릿에서 지도 앱을 열고 펜으로 강남 쪽 높은 산 지점을 가리켰다.Jiwoo opens a map on the tablet and points with her pen to a high spot in the hills near Gangnam.

그녀는 뒤를돌아 카페 창문을 바라보며 말한다.She turns and looks out the café window as she speaks.

지우 뒤로 너머 창밖은 어느새 노을이 지고 있었다. 붉고 노란 빛이 건물 유리창에 번져 있고, 거리의 사람들은 평범하게 걸어가고 있다. 아이들은 웃으며 떠들고 있고 누군가는 자전거를 끌고 횡단보도 앞에 멈춰 선다. 하늘은 부드럽게 물들어 있다. 자연스럽게 주인공의 집 앞이 보여진다.Beyond Jiwoo, sunset has quietly settled over the city. Red and gold light spreads across the glass faces of nearby buildings. People walk the streets as usual. Children laugh and chatter; someone wheels a bicycle to a stop at a crosswalk. The sky is softly colored. The scene transitions naturally to the front of the protagonist's home.

지우는 메신저백을 고쳐 메며 말했다.Jiwoo adjusts the strap of her messenger bag as she speaks.

지우가 말하면서 가버린다.Jiwoo says it as she starts walking away.
